A SOUL FOR MAYA

Dear Maya Angelou,
I remember at Mrachek Middle School, picking up one of your books and discovering “ALONE,” which was history.
I drew my strength from the things you wrote, and now, though you are gone; I’ve always been inspired to write…love…

And, yes, Maya made me do it,
and since then, I’ve never put down the pen.
It moves mountains.
I pray you’re dancing with the angels alongside Malcolm, King, and Biko.
Ain’t that a QUEEN?
Black!

And all along, I salute you.
And, in the morrow, in the heavens,
I pray that those angels darn ya hair.
