This week, a poignant moment unfolded as Ex-President Barack Obama and Pres. Donald J. Trump sat side by side at the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter — two leaders with a history marked by deep political divides. Yet, in that solemn setting, they engaged in conversation and even shared a laugh.

This unexpected scene caught many off guard and quickly became a topic of discussion. While some viewed it as hypocrisy, others saw it as a powerful reminder of our shared humanity and our responsibility to each other, especially sharing this great country.

Disagreement does not necessitate dehumanization, and listening does not require agreement. In a time when every debate often feels like a battleground and conversations can seem confrontational, we must remember that there is a time and place for everything.

Funerals are poignant reminders that power, politics, and personal positions ultimately fade away. So does life because it’s appointed that “No man lives forever” and must meet his creator. What endures is the way we show up for one another, the connections we foster, and the compassion we extend even when we disagree.

In a world marked by division, always remember the strength that comes from unity. Perhaps this moment can inspire us to embrace our differences while recognizing our shared humanity — a lesson worth cherishing as we navigate the complexities of our times.
