What love is and what love is not.

We live under a massive cultural misconception about what love is and what love is not. In today’s world, the idea of love has been tied to the conception of materialism. Buying her a new car, diamond ring, styling her, etc., have been somewhat tied into what some deemed as “true love.” But is it? Has love been constructed into the idea of materialism?

In a capitalistic society, when you speak of “materialism,” you are seen as an outsider. Even though this fantasy exists, most capitalist tries hard to not even think about it. But here’s the good news: you do not have to spoil your spouse by buying him/her the most expensive of things to show your love. That is what love is not.

But what love is? Love is time. It is rooted in hard work from both ends that can and must be cultivated over a lifetime. This hard work from both ends should be able to create a marriage with a rose-filled garden. Love is not filled with romantic movies’ emotions. It is an unprecedented truth. Love is not a wholly “I” but an imperfect “we.” It is a reciprocal art of life rooted in the true essence of living.

Plato says it poignantly in eros and philia: He whom love touches not walks in
