WHY BLACK HISTORY MONTH SHOULDN’T EXIST!

Why Black history month shouldn’t exist: A Pan-Africanist approach.

It’s February, and I think that we should get rid of “Black history month” for good. Before, some of you get in your feelings, read further. 👇👇👇

I mean, think about it, “When is White history month?” Black history is America’s history, but why is it systemically separated? It’s because every month of every year, day, time, hours, it’s White history month. And today, we are constantly reminded of a “Supremacist” living in the “White House.” Every day, every book, biopic, and every award (The Academy ) celebrates “White History” to begin with. Is Black history month a time for racists to be reminded that they hate you just because you exist?

Though Black history month was started in 1916 by Carter G. Woodson, to high light and appreciate Black culture in broader American society. Some of you make a huge deal of “brown faces” for 28 days and ignore racial injustices for the rest of the year that still goes on in this country. Black history cannot just fit into 28 days, the shortest month of the year, to teach an account that doesn’t make some folks feel uncomfortable. Black history month isn’t really about Black history but is based on the idea of only educating Americans about the pacification of “Black people.”
